Abstract

Note-taking is a common support for students with hearing impairments in higher education institutions. In many cases, students on campus are involved as supporters to assist those with hearing impairment with note taking. However, problems in their relationships such as excessive interference on support and the students with hearing impairments hesitate. In this study, we administered an e-mail interview survey to Note-Takers and analyzed their answer qualitatively. The result reveals that the sense of purpose of the support students varies depending on their motivation and the influential factors in giving support. Further, support students have the attitude to grow together with those with hearing impairment if consensus has been developed between them, but their sense of purpose becomes conservative, thereby making them selective about giving innocuous support, if consensus has not been developed. Moreover, the support students are anxious about their aptitude.
